"POST FOSSIL¡ªexcavating 21st century creation"
Exhibition directed by Li Edelkoort

Li Edelkoort, the world¡¯s premier trend forecaster, has drawn upon her unique insight in order to choose and present a new generation of artists and designers whose works will redefine what we currently regard as conventional design. Incorporating natural materials and processes, these designers are traveling back in time and revisiting the primitive roots of the very act of design itself. The exhibition as a whole seeks out clues necessary for the human race to live fulfilling lives and define our future.

The name is read as "Two-one two-one design sight." It derives from the term in English for perfect vision, "20/20 Vision" (or sight), and was named to express our wish to become a venue that will generate design that sees even more clearly what is ahead. The logo is designed after the often-seen Japanese address number plates, which represents 21_21 DESIGH SIGHT's being a "place" of design, and the importance that design plays in everyday life

Arcadia is an expansive collection of contemporary alpine and backcountry architecture and interior design. The book profiles architects and designers who are embracing nature and creating provocative rural hideaways that adapt to their surrounding habitats and their topographical and climatic conditions. It features both traditional and progressive examples of private mountaintop homes and hotel lodges nestled in the forest landscape as well as bespoke furniture and interior designs inspired by nature and folklore. Arcadia is an inspiring reference that shows how the archaic idea of life in harmony with nature can be reflected in contemporary living.

Spazio Fendi
Via Sciesa 3 Milano 20135

Design Miami/ and FENDI present Craft Punk a series of design performances at Spazio FENDI during the Salone del Mobile.

As an extension of the Design Miami/Design Performances, Craft Punk will feature a selection of innovative designers working onsite with traditional handcraft methods to create nonconformist, cutting-edge objects, installations, and encounters.

The international roster of designers includes: Kwangho Lee, Massimiliano Adami, Nacho Carbonell, Peter Marigold, Raw-Edges, Sarah Becker, Simon Hasan, Studio Glithero, Studio Libertiny, and Yuri Suzuki & Household.

Each designer is invited to use discarded materials from the FENDI production process, such as Selleria leather, branded fabrics, plastic decorative elements, and metal hardware.

The design performances will bring together music, video, live demonstrations and conversation, transforming the 750m2 Spazio FENDI into an active environment for social interaction, unruly intellectual inquiry and action-based design processes.

Oratorio Della Passione Sant'ambrogio
Milano

A chair is a chair is a chair.
Some come close to religion, others are ugly as sin. A narrative on an almost sacral theme, for the designer the creation of a chair is like that of a string quartet to the composer: a unique reading of it creator¡¯s cerebral signature, revealing his modus operandi against the zeitgeist.

To celebrate the existence of this daily life four legged comfort bringer, about twenty five designers were invited to the Oratorio della Passione at Sant¡¯Ambrogio ( Milan¡¯s oldest church ) to express their personal confessions on chair prototyping.

The exhibition reveals the invisible detours on the quest for perfection. Those imperfect-perfect moments, where against all the cliches of digital 3D moulding, prototyping still continues to be regularly performed, in this instance, by the canonical elite and the choirboys as well.

That the word prototype is an elastic concept, we experienced upon receiving the first entries. Some chairs are a prototype to the true sense of the word: first experiments in a preliminary stadium of the design process to mass production. Others are rather one off sculptures intended or not (nearly) finished pieces doomed to stay a first prototype forever with or against their will. But there¡¯s a place for everyone in the church: having different genders, we decided to give them a different wing in the chapel.

The global forum for collecting, exhibiting, discussing and creating design.

Inspired by the galvanizing effect of Art Basel Miami Beach, the founders of Design Miami/ set out to create a design fair unlike any other that came before. In 2005, Ambra Medda and Amy Lau saw the opportunity to create a nexus for the far-flung global community of cutting-edge design dealers, collectors, creatives, curators, and critics. They envisioned a new commercial and cultural forum that would capture the thriving general interest in design and elevate appreciation for limited-edition, experimental and historically significant design work, presented within an energetic, visually striking environment. No other design fair had ever attempted such a feat.

The BusanBiennale 2008 unfolds at the Busan Museum of Modern Art , Gwangalli Beach and APEC Naru Park between September 6th and November 15th under the theme of Expenditure. Culture is more closely related to wasteful activities where products are released and consumed to go back to the beginning of the cycle, rather than activities of production, construction, preservation, and augmentation. In this regard, the theme of the Busan Biennale 2008 promises to exhibit a distinctive philosophy of 'Expenditure' and a vivid scene of contemporary art through a variety of artworks created by artists invited from throughout the world, including paintings, photographs, videos, installations, outdoor sculptures, etc.

DESIGN VS UNDESIGNED-INITIATIVE ATTITUDE, OBSERVATION, POSSIBILITY

In the name of design, various products exists as part of our every-day lives. Most designed products are packaged with the right answer for consumers. In other words, products that have been designed under the justification of convenience that are best for consumers may be piling up in storage rooms, like and unwanted gift.

What are products that are designed and undesigned?

Consumer's initiative, active attitude towards a designed product can bring all sorts of inspiration, furthermore, a driving force for an endless discovery.Through observing and getting inspiration, I'm looking for the possible initiative attitude(design) which goes beyond the passive(undesigned).

+ florist - Jiseon Park

redefining traditions by floral designing - The floral design which florist Jiseon Park's suggesting starts from an inquiry inti tradition. Traditions from the past are analyzed subjectivity and it is understood differently under different circumstances. When talking about tradition, continuance is not necessary. Through this art work, the florist is trying to redefine the meaning of traditional material culture, pattern of thinking and acting in the past, and the expression of certain events or people etc.

+ florist - A-ryung Lim

waterfall kranz - The ring shape of a kranz stands for eternal love. Different from other floral designs, as Kranzes usually have their own characteristic by their shapes, nobody has dare tried to make a Kranz in a different shape. However, the artist has tried to get rid of this idea and created a Kranz which is running down by drawing an extensional line.
