"Urban play @ night"

Two monthes ago I visited Germany and learned how quickly it got dark.
Nights in Europe seemed quite different from where I live, where there's more crowd and streets much brighter.
Then it got to me how streets at night could get really lonely, empty and even depressing.
This goes for any streets in the world.
So I suggest a more cheerful night for urban play.
Street lights in exhibition areas, the waterfront, nearby subway stations etc. will have disco balls hanging from them,
which will result in a disco-like, party-like street which will bring a whole new atmosphere.

¡°Glowing Steps¡±

Giving some dance time for the public. For those walking in streets while listening to music, lovers that spend some time together in open areas. This is an extended idea of urban play @ night.
Giving the public another ¡®enjoyable thing to do¡¯ in areas that are open and provided to them.
Frankly, it is creating an outdoor dance floor, but which can only be seen when the sun sets.
Arranging drawn steps of waltz and tango steps into patterns with luminescent pigment (paint), which glow as it gets dark. The glowing dance patterns will be drawn (stenciled) on an open space like in a park or a plaza.
The pattern itself will work as a decoration which will bring a different atmosphere to the area,
The public can work on the steps and enjoy dancing waltz and tango. It doesn¡¯t necessarily have to be waltz & tango but I chose these because it¡¯s probably the most understandable dance for anyone, no matter what nationality.

And they don¡¯t have to dance exactly to the steps. Just dance whatever you feel like. That¡¯s the idea

Material, Form & Structure

In the dictionary, 'chair' is described as a furniture that's formed of a back, a seat and legs that hold it up and in the west, various types of chairs were made which were customed to living manners in the past. Chairs were generalized around the 18th century and before that, it was only the high class that enjoyed sitting in chairs.

In the east, especially in Korea, for many years people lived without chairs and sit on floors instead, and every furnitures were made with short or no legs, and like the lexical definition, chairs were meant for the king, representing their authority and power. Nowadays, the Korean lives are affected by the western style and chairs became an obvious object. Nevertheless, chairs are evolving in search of new meanings beyond the mere function of sitting; into new forms, new aesthetic point of view, experimenting in various materials. In this project, we are more interested in dealing with materials. We are trying to find out as many material as we can that can be used for chairs. Through a workshop of making chair miniatures out of every day and industrial materials, we want to find out what new value it would have as a chair when it meets with a new material with a certain structure. With this experiment, we can focus what a chair really means in our lives and the new possible materials to make a chair.

Light.

It is an electromagnetic wave which is created by the intersection of the electric and magnetic fields. The differences of this wavelength results to three rays-ultraviolet rays, visible rays or infrared rays.Among these, visible rays are the one human can recognize.

Every colors are determined by the wavelength and we are able to acknowledge an object when thelight hits the object and reflects back into our eyes. When the ray reflects fully, we see white, and when it doesn't reflect at all, we see black.

Raw Material Project is to acknowledge an object with reflection of light(in other words, an
object with color) and to control light with the most raw materials. I will then examine the transformed light after it passes through the materials and search for the meaning of light in respect to all kinds, including the sunlight which is the source of energy to most everything on Earth.

¡°DESIGN VS UNDESIGNED-INITIATIVE ATTITUDE, OBSERVATION, POSSIBILITY¡±

In the name of 'design', various products exists as part of our every-day lives. Most designed products are 'packaged' with the right answer for consumers. In other words, products that have been designed under the justification of convenience that are 'best for' consumers may be piling up in storage rooms, like and unwanted gift.

What are products that are designed and undesigned?

Consumer's initiative, active attitude towards a designed product can bring all sorts of inspiration, furthermore, a driving force for an endless discovery.Through observing and getting inspiration, I'm looking for the possible initiative attitude(design) which goes beyond the passive(undesigned).
